June 2024
Season launch
The 2024 citrus season was official launched mid last month in conjunction with the SA Produce Market and the Adelaide Central Market. The Pick A Local, Pick SA campaign created a large volume of media exposure including Stock Journal, 5AA and Channel 7.
Claire Scriven MLC officially opened the season and Callum Hahn did a cooking demonstration. Thanks to Penny Reidy from the SA produce markets for bringing it all together. There have been several citrus giveaways to sporting clubs, schools and community groups following the event to help promote SA grown citrus this season. If you are on Facebook, you can follow Pick A Local, Pick SA to keep up to date with all the fantastic promotions.

Citrus SA presents South Aussie with Cosi
Citrus SA will bring Adelaide identity, television host and social media star, Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello to the Riverland on Friday, August 23 for a special event for local citrus growers.
To be held at the Barmera Golf Club from 4pm, the family-friendly event will feature a guest speaking appearance by Cosi, followed by a barbecue and refreshments. It’s hoped this fun and uplifting event will be enjoyed by growers, partners, children and grandchildren.
Cosi will talk about some of the work he does promoting South Australia through his top-rating, South Aussie with Cosi television program, his Cows for Cambodia charity and much more. There will also be a chance for attendees to meet with Cosi after his talk.
Cosi’s grandfather had a property on Costello Road at Loveday and he has strong memories of spending time in the region as a child.
For catering purposes, please RSVP to Kerrie at contact@citrussa.com.au to secure your spot.
June production tips
Early winter GA sprays: This spray can be considered on mid-season navels, tangelos and lemons (after size and colour picking).
Later winter GA spray: The main objective for this spray is to regulate flowering. This should be considered, particularly if there has been a light fruit set.
Imperial GA Spray: This spray can be considered on selected patches if you need to prolong your harvest window. Benefits of this application can also reduce puffiness and water marks, if wet weather is encountered.
Winter foliar Urea Spray: This spray can assist in producing healthy bud initiation, especially if following a heavy crop set.
Frost Control Measures: It is important to identify frost prone areas and implement measures to prevent, detect and reduce frost risks.
Irrigation Maintenance: With a reduced water demand this time of year, this is an ideal time to do irrigation maintenance and flushing of irrigation lines.
Crop estimates and size: It is important to regularly update your fruit size and yield estimates and communicate this with your packer. This will assist with marketing strategies in particularly the export markets.
Pruning of early maturing varieties: Begin your pruning program once harvest of early maturing varieties has been completed.
*As always, this advice is general in nature. Please check with your packing shed or reseller.
